Stanford pulls rank on UH in tennis

Ninth-ranked Stanford handed the No. 40 Hawaii men's tennis team its second loss of the year 6-1 yesterday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

Leo Rosenberg posted UH's lone point of the day, defeating Richard Wire 6-2, 6-2 to improve to 6-0 in singles matches. The Rainbow Warriors (5-2) next face No. 37 California today.

 

UH water polo team splits with UCLA, ASU

The third-ranked UH water polo team opened the Stanford Invitational with an 11-7 win over No. 9 Arizona State and a 9-8 loss to No. 5 UCLA yesterday.

Leonie Ven Der Molen led UH (5-2) with four goals against ASU. Monika Eggens scored three against UCLA.

 

UH and marathon on QB Club agenda

University of Hawaii associate athletic director Marilyn Moniz-Kahoohanohano and Jonathan Lyau, the top Hawaii finisher in the Honolulu Marathon, headline tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

The meeting will be held a the Maple Garden Restaurant. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., with the program to start at noon.

Big inning sends UH-Hilo to loss

Connor Rankin drove in three runs to lead the Northwest Nazarene baseball team to a 7-3 win over Hawaii-Hilo yesterday at Simmons Field in Kailua-Kona.

Northwest Nazarene broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run rally in the eighth inning.

Keoni Manago went 2-for-4 and Cody Barrett drove in two runs for the Vulcans (2-2).

 

HPU tennis team sweeps UH-Hilo

The Hawaii Pacific men's and women's tennis teams opened their seasons with wins over Hawaii-Hilo yesterday on the Big Island.

The No. 15 Lady Sea Warriors beat the No. 39 Vulcans 9-0. The fifth-ranked HPU men's team beat No. 15 UH-Hilo 7-2.

 

HPU softball team rolls past Seasiders

Ciera Senas went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs to lead the Hawaii Pacific softball team to an 11-1 win over BYU-Hawaii yesterday in Laie.

Caira Pires homered for HPU and Sherise Musquiz and Ashley Valine combined to limit BYUH to two hits over five innings.

 

Free throws boost BYUH to win

Richelle Fenenbock scored 13 points and Mahina Gago and Zori Drew added 12 each to lead the BYUH women's basketball team to a 78-64 home win over Dominican yesterday.

The Seasiders (7-11, 3-5) went 27-for-30 from the free-throw line in the second half.
