Colorado visitor rescued after snorkeling trouble

A 62-year-old Colorado man almost drowned yesterday while snorkeling at the Lawai Beach Resort on Kauai.

The man's brother noticed him face down and not moving in the water about 20 feet from shore at 3:14 p.m., a Kauai County news release said.

The brother brought the man back to shore, and bystanders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until firefighters arrived and took over. Paramedics took the man to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in unknown condition.

 

Walmart worker arrested in alleged theft of $1,400

Police arrested a 20-year-old Makaha woman who allegedly stole $1,400 from the Keeaumoku Street Walmart while working last month.

Police said Walmart opened an investigation after a cash register ran short on Jan. 3 and 16. The investigation found the woman had activated a gift card worth $700 on each of those days and used the cards to make purchases, police said.

Officers booked the woman Thursday night on suspicion of two counts of second-degree theft.

 

Girl booked for threats to mom using kitchen knife

Police arrested a 14-year-old girl who allegedly threatened her 46-year-old mother with a knife in Wahiawa.

At about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, the woman was arguing with the girl about her school attendance when the girl grabbed a kitchen knife and cornered her mother in the bathroom, police said. While wielding the knife, the girl verbally threatened her mother, police said. Officers booked the girl on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
