Warriors tied for sixth in AVCA

Two five-set wins over the defending national champion pushed Hawaii into a tie for sixth in the AVCA Division I-II men's volleyball coaches poll.

The Warriors (6-3), ninth in last week's rankings, received 152 points in the latest poll to tie Long Beach State for No. 6.

Cal State Northridge jumped past USC to take over the top spot. The Trojans dropped to No. 2, followed by Brigham Young, UCLA and Stanford.

The Warriors, coming off two wins over No. 11 UC Irvine, next face UCLA on Thursday and Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

 

UH's Eggens wins award

Hawaii sophomore Monika Eggens was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo player of the week yesterday.

Eggens had 12 goals to help the third-ranked Rainbow Wahine to a 4-0 mark in the Northern California Invitational last weekend.

 

Seasiders shoot past Argonauts

Rory Patterson scored 23 points to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii (10-5, 4-2 PWC) to a 92-48 rout of Notre Dame de Namur last night in Laie.

» Hawaii Pacific forward C.J. Jackson was named the Pacific West Conference men's basketball player of the week. Jackson averaged 22.5 points and 14 rebounds in two wins last week.

 

UH-Hilo women score close win

Hina Kimitete scored 18 points and Kirsty Imai added 15 and UH-Hilo (6-13, 3-5) edged Academy of Art (6-12, 2-5) 67-64 yesterday on the Big Island.

» Laura Zasly scored 24 points to lead Notre Dame de Namur (9-10, 5-3 PWC) to a 65-57 women's basketball win over BYU-Hawaii (5-11, 1-5).
