FUN FOR FANS
Another great weekend for Hawaii sports
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game.
Whoever said that was mostly right. That's what came to mind watching the weekend's nail-biters between the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team and UC-Irvine.
What a treat for fans, as the two oh-so-evenly matched teams fought oh-so-valiantly for victory on Friday and Saturday night.
On both nights, it all came down to a crucial Game 5 after UH blew an early 2-0 set advantage (would, could, the UH men sweep the defending NCAA champs?). Exciting rallies occurred, as both teams battled long and hard. Ultimately, the UH Warriors pulled out the match wins on both nights.
Mahalo, from the fans — awesome play by both teams. But yes, the win does feel better than the loss.
THANKS!
Pro Bowl scores for Hawaii
Sunday's Pro Bowl in Miami was not a total loss to Honolulu.
The NFL says that 19 island nonprofit organizations will share $100,000 as part of the longstanding NFL Charities Bowl Grant Program.
The all-star game had been played at Aloha Stadium since 1980 and will return in 2011 and 2012.
Sunday's Pro Bowl was aired on ESPN, and viewership was up 40 percent from last year's game on NBC: An average of 12.3 million viewers watched, the most since 2000.
