A state judge issued an arrest warrant for Zachary T. Robinson two days before police said Robinson and another man beat an 85-year-old woman and her caretaker in a Waialae Nui home early last Thursday.

The judge issued the warrant because Robinson failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing for a different case.

An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Robinson, 19, and Cody Mikami, 21, each with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.

Police said the woman and her caretaker, a 40-year-old man, remain in critical condition.

Circuit Judge Richard Perkins confirmed Robinson's $1 million bail and reduced bail for Mikami to $500,000 from $1 million. Both defendants remain in custody.

Robinson and Mikami went to the Halekoa Drive home to take things from the residence, said Vickie Kapp, deputy prosecutor. The defendants knew the caretaker through a mutual friend, she said.

At the time of the attack, Robinson was awaiting trial in state court for a Nov. 3 burglary in Waikiki. He was free on supervised release, but failed to show up for a Jan. 19 court hearing.

The judge issued a $50,000 bench warrant.

In the Waikiki case, Robinson and another man entered a sixth-floor Ala Wai Boulevard condominium and took items while the three residents were sleeping, police said.
