Parcel prompts street closure
Police shut down a portion of Ala Moana Boulevard for two hours while they investigated a suspicious package left at the Department of Homeland Security building, across from Waterfront Plaza (also known as Restaurant Row).
Police Capt. Letha DeCaires said the package was left outside the building at 595 Ala Moana Blvd. and was discovered by one of the workers at 5:15 p.m. yesterday.
The package appeared to be purposely left there, which led authorities to exercise caution and consider it suspicious.
Police Specialized Services Division officers responded to the call by federal officials.
Traffic was diverted from the area at 6 p.m. Ala Moana Boulevard was closed between Cooke and Alakea streets and reopened at 8 p.m.
Police said the scene was cleared and everything was considered safe. No details were provided about what the package contained.
Girl, 11, says assaults began in October
A 37-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Kalaeloa at least four times during the past three months.
The girl reported on Monday that the man had sexually assaulted her from Oct. 31 to last Sunday, police said.
Police opened a first-degree sexual assault case.
The case is pending further investigation.
Police arrest suspects in hammer-knife attack
Police arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged attack on a 25-year-old man.
The assault occurred at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday fronting 1700 Lanakila Ave.
Police said the suspects assaulted the victim with a hammer and stabbed him in the neck with a knife. They fled in a black 2003 Dodge Ram full-size quad cab with the license plate NDU-664.
There were conflicting reports on the victim's condition. Police said he was transported to a trauma center in critical condition. Bryan Cheplic, spokesman of the Emergency Services Department, said the victim was transported in serious condition.
Police arrested two suspects, ages 20 and 25, Monday at a Lyman Road address located in Schofield Barracks on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
The third suspect, Hazel Davis, 18, was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
Davis was the subject of a CrimeStoppers alert.
Worker hospitalized after fall from skylight
A man apparently working on a skylight in the old Panasonic building near Red Hill fell about 30 feet yesterday morning and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Services Department, said paramedics responded to the industrial accident at 8:13 a.m. at 99-859 Iwaiwa St.
The victim was described as a male in his 40s.
Police hold Wahiawa man in alleged assault
A 51-year-old Wahiawa man allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year girl who slept over at his house Saturday.
The girl had been visiting her cousin, who was staying with the suspect.
Police found, identified and arrested the man on suspicion of three counts of third-degree sexual assault, which usually constitutes fondling.
