Nation is sick with corruption

The political establishment is making our nation sick. The disease? Corruption! Delivering to corporate interests the right to force us to buy health insurance that does not serve us, but instead farms us, extracting our resources while pushing us into a medical machine that can only grind us up and spit us out.

Until we face up to the corruption of our political, economic, medical and media establishment, we are doomed to a sickening race to the bottom of the developed world. For the first time in my life, I truly fear for our nation.

Basic civil rights important for all

We cheered when we read on yahoo.com, “;Hawaii Senate Approves Same-Sex Civil Unions.”; Mahalo to the good people of the state Senate for realizing that we all—gay, straight or married couples—need equal protection under the law. Basic civil rights are important for every person and every couple; when we leave some people out, each of us has our humanity diminished. We have found our connections to Hawaii to be with people who are caring, humane and inclusive, and we cherish these experiences.

Civil unions vote to hurt politicians

I can't believe what the politicians are doing. What are they thinking? All they must want are the votes from the civil rights voters. Can you imagine what Hawaii's society would look like? Man and man; woman and woman; no babies; no children, except if they can adopt them. These politicians will not get our votes.

Consider Health Savings Accounts

It does not seem possible that all pre-existing conditions would be included in all policies and that people could wait until they are sick before getting insurance, without substantially raising the premiums for all of the people who have been paying for health insurance for years or all their adult life.

It also does not make sense that health insurance should include hair transplants and sex-change operations and other things that should be left up to the individual to pay.

Insurance premiums could be kept at a reasonable cost if people had catastrophic health insurance and Health Savings Accounts. The government could help to subsidize the premiums of people unable to pay for insurance or with a start of the Health Savings Accounts. We could have decent health care without adding dozens of rules and regulations to our already-controlled-by-the-government lives.

Corporations are not people

Corporations are not people. To imbue them with the free speech rights of a U.S. citizen is ludicrous. Corporations are multi-national, and this opens the floodgates for foreign agents to influence U.S. elections. That is wrong. The decision of these five activist judges has overturned over 100 years of Supreme Court rulings and placed the people of this country into a second-class status as an electoral force. Their actions are criminal and they deserve to be impeached.
