An 11-year-old boy was critically injured yesterday after he was hit by an SUV while riding a bicycle in Ahuimanu.

About 11:25 a.m., the boy was heading Kaneohe-bound on a sidewalk along Hui Ulili Street near Ahuimanu Place when he turned into the roadway and was hit by a 2004 Ford Explorer, police said.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike and sustained serious head injuries, police said. He was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

A 32-year-old Kaneohe woman driving the SUV and two minors in the back seat were not injured, police said.

Police said speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
