Help research water quality

Hui o Ko'olaupoko, Voices of the Watershed, needs volunteers to help in the first Kualoa Water Quality Snapshot Day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at Kualoa Beach Park.

New volunteers can work with more experienced monitoring volunteers at the park (near the first restroom building) to sample water quality in the ocean and nearby streams.

Water Quality Snapshot Days were created as a tool to promote environmental awareness and get citizens involved in determining the health of their local watershed, according to a Hui o Ko'olaupoko press release. The data collected can be used to create a base line for local water quality.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. They will be provided with easy-to-use test kits.

To learn more, contact Kristen Nalani Mailheau at 381-7202 or visit the Hui o Ko'olaupoko Web site at www.huihawaii.org.
