Ruptured main closes Ala Wai Boulevard

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply expected to reopen some lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard last night after a broken water main disrupted afternoon traffic.
At about 1 p.m. a valve on a 16-inch water main broke on Ala Wai Boulevard near Niu Street, said Kurt Tsue, Board of Water Supply spokesman.
Police closed all lanes on Ala Wai Boulevard between Namahana and Niu streets.
Repair crews isolated the break at about 5:30 p.m., cutting off water to an unknown number of residents, and a water wagon was brought out for residents, Tsue said.
Some lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard were to be reopened after debris could be cleared from the roadway, he said.
In November, two simultaneous water main breaks closed Ala Wai Boulevard near Keoniana Street for two days, snarling rush-hour traffic.
