Coach Iams leaves post at Punahou

From the Olympics to high school competition, Jim Iams always aimed for the gold.

As he stepped down from the girls volleyball coaching post at Punahou, he said he had no regrets.

“;I enjoyed it and appreciate all the time and effort,”; Iams said yesterday. “;It's just time for a change for everybody. The kids were good, the parents were good, the school was good.”;

The Buffanblu finished second in the Division I state tournament last season. They went 21-0 before losing to Kamehameha in the final.

Iams, who was an assistant coach on the U.S. Olympic team in 1988, coached Punahou for four seasons.

“;I told (former athletic director) Tom Holden I'd do it for three years. I'm disappointed we didn't win (a state championship), but in the long run, it was a success. In the short run, we came up 0-for-3 in the finals, but in every other way it was a success.”;

Two recruits visit Baylor

Baylor got an up-close look at defensive linemen Seali'i Epenesa and Beau Yap last weekend.

Epenesa, a defensive tackle from 'Iolani, and Yap, a defensive end from Kamehameha, were offered scholarships to play for the Bears during the trip to Texas, according to Doris Sullivan of the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance.
