Dinners at Roy's raise funds for Haitian earthquake relief
Chef Roy Yamaguchi might know little about Haitian cuisine, but he's not letting that get in the way of a benefit dinner for Haitian relief at Roy's Hawaii Kai. Nor is he concerned about price.
This dinner has no set cost. You come, you eat, you write a check to the American Red Cross and put it in an envelope. All the envelopes go straight to the charity to help victims of Haiti's devastating earthquake.
The first dinner on Friday is sold out, but a second is planned for 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
“;I don't have a lot of experience with Caribbean food,”; Yamaguchi said, “;but I will give it my best shot. I'm not afraid of embarrassing myself for a cause as important as this.”;
Also, “;I wouldn't mind if someone with some background in Haitian cooking could lend me a hand.”;

Farmers' market comes to Waikiki
King's Village Shopping Center has added a Friday evening farmers' market to its regularly scheduled “;Changing of the Guard”; ceremony.
Produce stands and other booths may be visited before or after watching a rifle drill by the guard in their replicas of the uniforms worn by the Hawaiian Royal Palace Guard in 1875. King's Village is at 131 Kaiulani Ave. The market will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. with the ceremony at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free.
Italian wine dinner at Sergio's
Sergio's Italian Table showcases the Italian Ruffino wines at a five-course dinner next Wednesday.
Chef Rodhel Ibay's menu: Porcini-Dusted Scallop Bruschetta (with “;Libaio”; Pino Grigio), Seared Onaga with Creamy Mushrooms and Leeks Sauce (”;Libaio”; Chardonnay), Tea-Smoked Duck Breast (Chianti Classico Reserve Ducale “;d'Oro”;), Charbroiled Rib Eye with Wild Mushroom Jus (Grepponi Mazzei, Brunello di Montalcino) and Chocolate Decadence Ala Mode.

Use your noodles at Castle
Castle Medical Center welcomes the Year of the Tiger with “;Oodles of Noodles,”; a wellness cooking class at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Castle's Wellness Center Auditorium.
Chef Paul Onishi will demonstrate noodle dishes made with nutritious ingredients.
