YAAARGH!
Handsome man alert! Black Pearl on the horizon!
Ahoy there, me hearties!
Captain Jack Sparrow, he of the Black Pearl and the Disney blockbuster series “;Pirates of the Caribbean,”; will be in Hawaii this summer to start shooting a fourth “;Pirates”; movie.
Yesterday's announcement by Gov. Linda Lingle's office no doubt got the blood pumping for the state's
bean counters - who've not had many beans to count lately - since the production is expected to bring about
$85 million in direct and indirect spending to Hawaii.
For many others, the quicker heart rate might be attributed to potential summer sightings on Kauai and Oahu of Captain Sparrow himself: Johnny Depp, who's twice been named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, in 2003 and in 2009.

Royal Society has a birthday, gives a gift
Word that the original document telling how 18th-century scientist Isaac Newton came upon the theory of gravity is being posted online is great news for science lovers - and anyone, really, who cares about how great discoveries are made. Many times they are just pure serendipity, as when Newton was sipping tea in the shade of some apple trees and observed an apple falling to the ground. The fragile 1752 manuscript by Newton biographer William Stukeley that describes the incident joins similar historic accounts posted online to mark the 350th anniversary of Britain's Royal Society, whose Web site can be found at www.royalsociety.org/turning-the-pages.
