Giveaway aims to share queen's tale

In commemoration of the 117th anniversary of the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom, Native Books/Na Mea Hawaii at Ward Warehouse will distribute 100 copies of Queen Liliuokalani's personal memoir, “;Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen,”; today. The queen's diary was written in 1897 and published the following year.

To receive free copies, a few conditions need to be met. The book should be a first-time read for recipients. The reader has one week to finish the book and needs to sign, date and pass it along to another first-time reader who follows the same rules. When the book has been circulated to at least 20 readers, it can be returned to the store to receive a new book.

Native Books' president, Maile Meyer, believes that sharing these books will bring firsthand knowledge of Queen Liliuokalani and the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom to at least 2,000 more people.
