Puppy dumping sparks case of animal cruelty

The Hawaiian Humane Society is offering a reward for information about the person who dumped six newborn puppies into a trash bin at Waianae Boat Harbor.

All the puppies died. They still had their umbilical cords attached and were found by someone at the harbor about 7 a.m. Tuesday, said Kawehi Yim, Humane Society spokeswoman.

Yim said two puppies had already died when a Humane Society officer arrived, two died in transport, and two were so severely ill that they had to be euthanized.

She did not know what kind of puppies they were.

The society is offering up to $1,000 for information that leads to an animal cruelty conviction in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Humane Society at 356-2240. Leave your name, a telephone number, and the date and time you are calling, the society said.
