Hawaii will receive $1.9 million in federal funds to improve roadways, parking lots and pedestrian walkways at national parks on Molokai, Kauai and the Big Island.
The federal Department of Transportation funded the grant, a joint news release from Sens. Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka said.
The improvements include: paving the entrance road to Kakahaia National Wildlife Refuge; repairs and better traffic flow at Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge; a route for bus tours along Kuloa Point at Haleakala National Park; pedestrian walkway improvements at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; and repairs to Mauna Loa Road and traffic facilities at Koloko-Honokohau National Historic Park.
