To ask Dana Takahara-Dias about today's game requires more specifics.

That's because she'll pull double duty - playing in the Rainbow Wahine alumnae game at 5 p.m., then turning around to coach Hawaii (7-9, 1-2) against Nevada (9-8, 3-0) in a 7 p.m. Western Athletic Conference contest. Both games are at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Assistant coach Da Houl will also pull off the feat as part of a group of about 40 former players who will play in or attend the game.

“;My personal thoughts are: 'no injuries,'”; said Takahara-Dias with a laugh. “;I need to be able to put some high heels on for the (WAC) game.

“;No, my personal feelings, I'm just overwhelmed by the support of the alumnae to come back. And that's what it's all about. Even if we sit on the bench and cheer very loud, or get out there and score 20 points (as an alumna), it's just about the feeling of family and coming back to the program.”;

Takahara-Dias played from 1984 to '88 and Houl from '83 to '87.

“;It should be funny, watching Coach Da and Coach Dana trying to run,”; junior shooting guard Leilani Galdones said. “;And we'll probably tease them after, stuff that they yell at us about.”;

Today's participants go back to the start of the Wahine program in 1974 under coach Patsy Dung. Noella Kong, Keiki-Dawn Izumi and Sharon Kamalii are the expected from the original Wahine team. Recent alumnae include Christen Roper, Saundra Cariaga, Tara Hittle, Brittney Aiwohi and Dalia Solia.

All former players in attendance will be honored by past coaches Dung and Vince Goo at halftime of the Nevada game. While there were alumnae games under Goo, it's been a while for the program overall. The current coaches thought the last of them happened in 2004, around the time Jim Bolla took the reins from Goo.

After the alumnae game, the Wolf Pack will provide a stiff challenge for a Wahine team riding high on its first WAC win, a 62-52 decision over Idaho on Wednesday. UH closes out its three-game homestand against Utah State on Monday at 5 p.m.

The Pack are tied with Fresno State atop the WAC standings, but are 2-5 in all road games this season. Nevada has won four straight and six of the last seven in the series against UH.

“;I think we're really confident going in off a win,”; Wahine junior forward Allie Patterson said. “;I think we want to get three wins (here at home). I'm not really worried about Nevada, I'm worried about what we do. And if we play our game, then we'll definitely come away with a win in this game. We just need to play together, play smart like we know we can.”;
