Cuizon second in junior surfing

Hawaii's Alessa Cuizon finished second in the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships yesterday at North Narrabeen, New South Wales, Australia.

The 16-year-old Cuizon was outpointed by 18-year-old hometown favorite Laura Enever 18.33-11.10 in the women's final. Cuizon had advanced via an impressive 14.30-8.97 win over France's Pauline Ado, the defending junior world champion.

In the men's competition, Hawaii's Clay Marzo and Granger Larsen lost in the quarterfinals to Brazilians to finish equal fifths. Marzo was outpointed by Gabriel Medina 9.66-1.60, while Larsen was edged by Alejo Muniz 14.73-14.07.
