Mililani boys march along
The Mililani boys basketball team (10-3, 4-0 OIA Red West) has enjoyed a fluid, quick pace, but that's no surprise under coach Ed Gonzales.
After averaging 67.8 points per game in the preseason — including wins by scores of 84-75 and 85-79 — the Trojans have maintained the pace with 67.3 points per game in four regular-season games.
Balance and depth are key. While 6-foot-4 Hassan Richardson has scored in the 20s twice, including a 28-point effort against Waipahu, Joe McGlamery and Reginald Griffin have also been high scorers.
New nickname for St. Francis
For decades, St. Francis was an all-girls school tagged with the nickname Troubadours.
As of this school year, St. Francis — which now enrolls boys — is playing boys sports at the junior varsity level.
According to athletic director/coach Sol Batoon, the athletic teams also have a new nickname: Saints.
The Saints boys JV basketball team is playing well, preparing for a bump up to varsity next season.
Batoon is contemplating whether the squad will move into Division II of the ILH or play in Division I.
