Sony kicks off today with skills challenge

The $5.5 million Sony Open in Hawaii begins today with the Pro-Junior Skills Challenge at 2:30 p.m. at the 18th hole of the Waialae Country Club. Today's event features Steve Stricker, Jerry Kelly, Parker McLachlin, Dean Wilson and Tadd Fujikawa.

The Pro-Am round starts tomorrow at 6:50 a.m. and will likely last all day. The first two rounds on Thursday and Friday begin at 7 a.m., with the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday expected to start at 8 a.m. This is the year's first full-field event on the PGA Tour.

To purchase tickets online, go to http://www.friendsofhawaii.org. A daily ticket from tomorrow through Sunday will cost $20. You can order a season badge for $50 that's good all week. A premier hospitality seat at the Ocean Club Skybox costs $175 a day. It's located adjacent to the 17th green with the price of admission including a ticket, buffet lunch and soft drinks. For those who can't attend, you can watch it on the Golf Channel. The broadcast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday is from 2 to 5:30 p.m. For Sunday's final round, the broadcast time is 2 to 5 p.m. with a rebroadcast from 6 to 9 p.m.

The defending champion is Zach Johnson. This year's winner takes home $990,000.
