Panty thief back in jail for terms not followed

The man who became known as the Kahala Panty Burglar in the 1980s is back behind bars for failing to comply with the terms of his probation and state sex offender registry requirements.
A state judge revoked probation for Harrison Mew yesterday and resentenced him to five years in prison.
The state says Mew, 58, did not participate or pay for court-ordered sex offender treatment. And he has not been honest about where he has been living, said Michelle Puu, deputy city prosecutor.
Mew pleaded no contest in 2006 to violating the sex offender registry law for failing to list one of his vehicles. A state judge sentenced him to five years on probation.
Another state judge sent Mew to jail for 60 days last year for failing to tell his probation officers that police questioned him about an alleged theft and sexual assault of a tenant and for missing two installment payments on a court-ordered fine.
The state, Mew's wife and tenants said Mew rented a Kaneohe mansion and then advertised rooms for rent for women only on Craigslist using a false name so prospective tenants would not know he is a convicted sex offender.
Mew served time in state prison for a 1983 conviction for stealing women's panties in a series of burglaries in Kahala.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault in 1999 for which he was sentenced to five years' probation.
