Hair wanted for children's wigs
POSTED: Saturday, January 09, 2010
Kindness will be measured by the inch at the 7th Annual Locks of Love hair drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at J Boutique Salon and Spa at Koko Marina Shopping Center in Hawaii Kai.
The donated hair from free “;blunt-style”; haircuts will be used to make hairpieces for children suffering from long-term hair loss due to various medical conditions.
The Locks of Love organization provides prosthetic hairpieces to children, ages 6 to 18, every 18 months for a total of up to eight hairpieces. Each hairpiece requires from five to 10 ponytails and takes about four to six months to manufacture.
Donors should arrive at the salon with clean, dry hair. The hair must be at least 10 inches long and cannot be dyed or permed.
The first 50 hair donors will receive Locks of Love bears.
