Ogata leads Mililani past Kapolei

Led by Amber Ogata's 20 points, Mililani held on for a thrilling 57-55 victory over visiting Kapolei last night in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West girls basketball game.

Not only did Ogata connect on four 3-pointers, her two free-throws with 8.5 seconds left in the game proved to be the difference.

Leilani Tauani-Fifita scored 18 points in the loss for Kapolei.

The Chargers stayed tied with Mililani atop the OIA Red West with a dominating performance against the Seariders.

Jordan Ahakuelo scored a game-high 19 points, 12 of which came in the first half as Pearl City led 40-10 at halftime.

Tiara Tagaloa had six points for Waianae in the loss.

The Govs' Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo scored 13 points and Dianna Prescott added 12 in a victory over Na Menehune.

Jasmine Funtanilla converted on a three-point play to spur Na Menehune early, as Moanalua led 10-8 after a strong first quarter. But Farrington rallied in the second period behind Tatupu-Leopoldo and Kirsten Liana, who each scored four points.

Tatupu-Leopoldo scored nine points after the break as the Governors took control in the second half with a strong defensive effort.

Funtanilla had seven points in the third quarter, but none in the fourth as Farrington tightened its man-to-man defense.

Leisha Liilii (a game-high 26 points) and Kailee Awa (13) combined for 39 points as the visiting Kights held on for a slim victory at Kalani.

Castle outscored Kalani by 10 in the second quarter to take a five-point lead at halftime.

In the loss, Kalani's Coire Kuia scored a team-high 21 points, while Hikaru Kumagai totaled 17, including three 3-pointers.

With the win, Castle improved to a game over .500 in the OIA Red East.

Mikela Thoemmes scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Rough Riders.

Thoemmes went 7-for-10 from the free-throw line before McKinley started collapsing in an effort to contain her in the second half. That freed up the outside for Roosevelt's shooters. Nicole Ramirez hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter and Abcde Furuta-Harada sank another in the fourth as the Rough Riders remained undefeated.

Arellano hit two 3-pointers and Bitanga added another in the first quarter and Kaiser's full-court press forced multiple turnovers and held down the visiting Bulldogs throughout the first half.

Savannah Ash led Waialua with 18 points.
