Man is charged in use of gun, knives in threat
Authorities charged with first-degree terroristic threatening a 24-year-old Waikele man who allegedly fired a handgun and threatened a cousin with two knives.
Justin D. Raquino was arrested Sunday on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, a gun charge, kidnapping, terroristic threatening, third-degree assault and theft.
Raquino was charged yesterday with five counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
Police said Raquino came out of his home with two guns and allegedly fired two shots into the air at 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
His 38-year-old cousin disarmed him and hid the guns, police said.
Police said one of the guns was stolen.
Apartment is damaged in cigarette-sparked fire
An apartment fire yesterday in Hilo was accidentally caused by a cigarette, Big Island fire investigators found.
The fire at 270 Ululani St. was confined to the living room of Apartment 35. Firefighters, upon arrival, saw flames coming from the living room window.
No one was home at the time, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the 1:54 p.m. alarm and were on scene in two minutes. The fire was under control by 2:02 p.m. Damage was estimated at $8,000. No one was injured in the incident.
Woman's ex-husband allegedly chokes her
Police arrested a 31-year-old Kapolei man who allegedly pushed and choked his 30-year-old ex-wife and prevented her from calling for help.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. Monday.
The couple was arguing, and the woman tried to defuse the situation but the man would not back off, police said.
The woman tried to call 911 on her cell phone, but the man allegedly took her phone from her. He then allegedly pushed and choked her and then fled, police said.
Police arrested the man when he returned to the home on suspicion of abuse of a family or household member, second-degree theft and interfering with reporting an emergency or crime.
Couple's fight ends with shots toward room
Police arrested a 40-year-old Ewa Beach woman who allegedly shot at her 42-year-old husband, who was in an adjacent room.
Police arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree reckless endangering. The shooting occurred at 9:37 p.m. Monday.
Police said the couple was arguing when the woman allegedly fired a handgun at her husband, who was in another room.
Police arrested the woman without incident at their home at 91-105 Kaimoana St.
Soldier from Schofield accused in sex assault
A 22-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 44-year-old woman at a Wahiawa business.
Police said the woman reported she was sexually assaulted by the man at 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
Police arrested him on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault at Schofield Barracks later that evening. Police released him yesterday pending further investigation.
