The 6-foot-1 senior scored 15 points against Eisenhower (Ill.) in a semifinal, then scored 15 more against Arcata (Calif.) in the title game as the Buffanblu won the St. Francis Merv Lopes Classic crown. He also won the slam-dunk competition.

The senior forward had 12 points and 14 rebounds in what is believed to be the Owls' first girls hoops victory over Punahou.

HPU, UH-Hilo men get road victories

Hawaii teams won three of four PacWest conference basketball openers last night in California.

Mike Helton scored 29 points and C.J. Jackson added 20 as Hawaii Pacific never trailed in an 89-64 victory over host Dominican.

The Sea Warriors improved to 9-3 overall. The Penguins fell to 3-9. They were led by Alex Ward's 12 points.

In the women's game, Mana Hopkins scored 24 points to lead HPU past Dominican 78-60.

Kimi Nakamura had 17 to lead the Lady Penguins (3-8). HPU is 5-4 overall.

» In San Francisco, Bryan Ngo scored 22 points as Hawaii-Hilo beat host Academy of Art 73-60.

UHH improved to 7-4 with its fifth win in a row. Academy of Art fell to 0-11 despite 19 points from Phillip Samuel.

In the women's game, the Urban Knights won 76-57 as Lorraine Etchell led the way with 20 points. Hina Kimitete scored 11 points and Sheena Pio added 10 for the Vulcans (3-9).
