After spending a season-plus north of the border, Ryan Grice-Mullen is set to relocate to South Beach.

The former Hawaii receiver signed a free-agent contract with the Miami Dolphins yesterday.

The two-year contract offers Grice-Mullen a second shot at making it in the NFL and reunites him with former UH teammate Davone Bess.

Bess led the Dolphins in receiving this season, and Grice-Mullen looks forward to his opportunity to join him in Miami.

“;It's pretty cool,”; said Grice-Mullen, who played for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League this season. “;It's great to have somebody who's like my brother there who can help me out and help in my transition with the team.

“;I still have to earn my stripes,”; he added. “;I'm really happy for him and he's definitely established himself with the Dolphins. But I have to earn my way, just like he did.”;

Grice-Mullen and Bess were a prolific slotback tandem over three seasons with the Warriors. They both left after their junior seasons to pursue professional careers, but neither was drafted.

While Bess hooked on with Miami, Grice-Mullen was released by the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears.

He signed with the BC Lions after seeing action late in the 2008 season. He caught 20 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown in his first full year with the team. He also made an impact as a kick returner. He covered 1,099 yards on kickoff returns (an average of 23.4 yards) and ranked fifth in the CFL in punt returns in averaging 9.6 yards. He set a CFL playoff record with a 106-yard punt return for a touchdown against Montreal.

Grice-Mullen—who finished his college career third on UH's all-time receiving list with 3,370 yards and 36 touchdowns—reports to the Dolphins in March and hopes to have better luck this time around after injuries derailed his first shot at the NFL.
