2 men in hospital after Maui crash
Two men were seriously injured yesterday in a two-car collision on Hana Highway just north of Kaiholo Place in Kuau, Maui.
A northbound car driven by a 30-year-old Haiku man was turning left into the driveway of Mama's Fish House about 12:50 p.m. and collided with a southbound car driven by a 43-year-old Huelo man, police said.
Both men were not wearing their seat belts, police said.
The drivers were initially listed as critically injured and taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, but their conditions were upgraded to not life-threatening.
Obama threat call lands man in jail
A 58-year-old man is in federal custody for allegedly threatening to kill President Barack Obama in a 911 call Wednesday.
The U.S. Secret Service said Willis D. Powell told a Honolulu Police Department dispatcher, “;I want to kill the president of the United States, and I'm going to do that with a gun,”; then hung up.
The Secret Service said Powell made the call on a cellular telephone from an Atkinson Street address.
Secret Service special agents later located Powell, who told them he remembered making the 911 call but did not remember why.
Sailing vessel runs aground
The Coast Guard will monitor a 38-foot sailing vessel that ran aground at about 2 p.m. yesterday near the Kahe Power Plant until the owner can have it removed.
The Priscilla Mary was anchored while its passengers were snorkeling when the wind picked up and pushed the boat toward shore, the Coast Guard said yesterday.
There have been no reports of pollution, although the boat was carrying 10 gallons of fuel, Coast Guard pollution investigators said.
ID of drowning victim released
The Medical Examiner's Office identified a 49-year-old Kaaawa man who was found dead on New Year's Day in waters off Kaaawa Beach Park as Timothy Davison.
The Medical Examiner's Office said Davison died in a drowning accident.
Fire officials said his body was spotted about 100 yards offshore. His family reported him overdue from a snorkeling expedition at 4:47 p.m. A city lifeguard brought the body to shore on a motorized watercraft.
Pali Lookout fall kills local man
An 81-year-old Honolulu man fell to his death after he walked to the edge of the Pali Lookout in an apparent accident, police said.
Police said the man was with his wife about 10 a.m. yesterday when he crawled through or around the metal railing and walked to the edge of the lower scenic viewing area. The man apparently fell from there, police said. He was pro- nounced dead at the scene.
Police blocked off part of the right townbound lane on the Kailua side of the Pali Tunnel during the recovery of the body.
