UH men's volleyball 12th
Hawaii opens its first season under Charlie Wade with a No. 12 ranking in the AVCA coaches preseason top 15 poll.
The Warriors concluded last year at No. 15, Mike Wilton's last as head coach.
Hawaii returns six starters, including senior middles Matt Rawson and Steven Grgas, and 11 letterwinners. The Warriors open with No. 15 Ohio State next Thursday in the 16th Outrigger Hotels Invitational. Also competing are top-ranked USC and No. 5 Penn State.
WAC holds all-decade vote
The Western Athletic Conference is holding an online vote for the all-decade volleyball and football teams.
The ballots are available at WACSports.com. The teams will be announced Jan. 11.
Hawaii has dominated WAC volleyball since joining the conference in 1996. The Rainbow Wahine has shared or won outright all 14 regular-season title and has won the past 10 WAC tournament titles. UH won the WAC football title in 1999 and 2007 and finished second three times.
BYUH loses to West Texas A&M
Slow starts to each half sent the BYU-Hawaii women's basketball team to a 73-57 loss to No. 16 West Texas A&M yesterday in Laie.
The Seasiders fell behind 11-0 to open the game and were outrebounded 41-20 in falling to 4-6. Richelle Fenenbock made four 3-pointers and led BYUH with 17 points off the bench.
