Hawaii song writers have commemorated many events over the years. Byl Leonard brings the tradition forward with this timely requiem for Maui Land & Pine.

Long-time residents will remember Leonard as one of the winners on Ron Jacobs' first “;Homegrown”; album for KKUA in 1976. Thirty-three years later he is still writing and recording “;acoustic island rock”; but using modern technology to give this solo project the full-bodied sound of a group.

The title song recalls with fond nostalgia the idealized plantation society of old. Four other songs—including a newly recorded version of “;Living in Hawaii,”; his 1976 “;Homegrown”; winner—make this a five-song showcase.

Leonard's lyric images of local life will resonate with island residents and expatriates everywhere.
