Oceanic to initiate 4G mobile network
Oceanic Time Warner Cable will launch its new 4G Road Runner Mobile network Jan. 4 in most areas on Oahu and Maui.
It is the first in a line of mobile broadband services set to be unveiled in 2010 and beyond.
Road Runner Mobile will offer customers a high-speed, media-rich broadband service that will include all the same features as Road Runner High Speed Online, including a full security suite, e-mail, data storage, Photoshow and the Road Runner portal.
Nurses ratify pact with dialysis firm
The Hawaii Nurses' Association has ratified a new three-year contract with Liberty Dialysis Hawaii LLC that will give the 80 nurses the union represents a 6 percent compounding wage increase over three years as well as improved differential pay and an improved medical premium payment formula.
All funds in the non-contributory plan will be suspended but will continue to grow for nurses enrolled in the matching 401(k) plan.
Kauai picks Briant for treatment plant
Kauai County has selected Briant Construction Inc., the construction subsidiary of Kauai-based Aqua Engineers Inc., to upgrade and expand the island's Waimea Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The project, which is expected to take two years to complete, will help Kauai County provide reliable, expanded service for Waimea to meet future wastewater treatment demands of the region. The plant's treatment capacity will more than double to 700,000 gallons a day from 300,000 gallons a day. The project also has potential to create jobs for many local contractors on Kauai.
Financing of the project comes in part from $7 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, stimulus money being funded through the state Department of Health from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Hawaii gets top destination honor
Hawaii has been chosen by Travel Weekly as the winner in the Best U.S. State Destination category for the publication's seventh annual Readers' Choice Awards.
In addition, Maui was recognized within the Hawaii category as Best Destination.
Dck buys rest of Dick Corp.'s assets
Dck worldwide, a global construction company headquartered in Pittsburgh, has purchased through a public sale the remaining assets of Dick Corp., which has a regional office in Honolulu.
In May 2008 dck worldwide bought Dick Corp.'s intellectual property. The purchase of Dick Corp.'s remaining assets yesterday marks the end of an era for the 87-year-old construction company.

» Marriott International has appointed Chris Tatum to vice president in charge of the company's portfolio of hotels and resorts in North Asia, Hawaii and the South Pacific. He has 28 years of experience with the company and was previously general manager of Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa as well as opening resident manager at JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, opening general manager of Brisbane Marriott Hotel in Australia and general manager of Renaissance Wailea Resort Maui.
» Kona Brewing Co. has announced Steven Adyani as Kailua-Kona pub general manager. He has more than 17 years of management experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry, including chief operations officer at Arancino Restaurant Group in Honolulu and various management positions at the Cheesecake Factory, Prime Restaurant Concepts and Trattoria Restaurant.
