Ten students were awarded $1,000 each in the 2009 Monsanto Hawaii Life Sciences Scholarship program. Recipients are Kyan Renie Agbayani of Aiea High School; Vinson Diep of Kalani; Brittni Dinong of Waianae; Celina Hayashi of King Kekaulike; Elizabeth Lagbas, and Myles Tabios of Lahainaluna; Colton Manley of Molokai; Tiare Pimentel of Baldwin; and Xuchyll Ann Roman, and Sabrina Lynn Samonte of Campbell.

Local Paint Horse youth competitor Savanah Hall of Honolulu captured a World Championship title at the 2009 Summer World Championship Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas. Hall won the Championship in Showmanship 13 and Under, riding “;Total Assets,”; a 10-year-old gelding she owns. In addition, the pair earned a Reserve World Championship in Hunt Seat Equitation 13 and Under with a field of 30.
