An accident between a motorcycle and station wagon killed the motorcyclist and injured five children, one critically, officials said.

The collision was reported at the intersection of Iwaiwa Street and Halawa Heights Road at 6:27 p.m. yesterday.

A 23-year-old man driving the motorcycle was taken to a trauma center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arriving, said Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

A boy, believed to be 13, was also taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two others—a girl in her teens and a boy under 10—were taken by ambulance in serious condition, Cheplic said. Two other children in the station wagon and a male adult were not as seriously injured, officials said.

Traffic investigator Lt. Darren Izumo said the 16-year-old girl with a provisional license was driving the station wagon under adult supervision.

The girl apparently drove into the intersection from Iwaiwa Street into the path of the motorcycle, which was speeding, Izumo said.
