Motorcyclist run over after crash is identified
A motorcyclist who died after crashing and then being run over early yesterday on Moanalua Freeway has been identified as Chad Morimatsu, 24, of Honolulu.
Police said that about 3:13 a.m., Morimatsu was riding a 2004 Yamaha R1 motorcycle the wrong way in the westbound lanes of the freeway. Police said he lost control and crashed about 387 feet from the Ala Kapuna overpass.
Police said it appears he was run over by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. Police were looking for the driver.
Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman, said paramedics were called at 3:15 a.m. and pronounced the man dead at the scene at 3:54 a.m.
Speed may have been a factor. Police said Morimatsu was wearing a helmet. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
Toddler with traumatic injuries dies afterward
A toddler died after sustaining life-threatening injuries in Windward Oahu yesterday.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said family members brought the boy in to the Kahaluu fire station about 5:20 p.m.
He was treated by firefighters for about four minutes for traumatic injuries, until paramedics arrived.
Police said the boy was taken to Castle Medical Center, where he died.
Help in identifying bank robber sought
Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who allegedly robbed the American Savings Bank in Kalihi yesterday afternoon.
Police said the man walked into the bank at 1851 N. King St. about 12:35 p.m. yesterday, handed a teller a note, brandished a weapon and demanded money.
Police said the man was last seen heading toward Farrington High School in what was possibly a blue Jeep sport utility vehicle.
The man is described as in his 20s, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7, weighing 160 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a pink T-shirt and a black-and-white baseball cap, possibly with an “;Oakland Raiders”; patch.
