Warriors picked to finish ninth
Hawaii was picked to finish ninth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, according to a poll released by the league yesterday. Defending conference champion USC is the preseason favorite.
Last season, Hawaii finished 9-18 overall and 6-16 in league play.
UH starts online auction
The Hawaii athletics department is auctioning off items from the school online at HawaiiAthletics.com.
Currently, the women's volleyball team's pink jerseys and game balls used from the “;Dig Pink”; match to support beast cancer awareness are available. In the future, other items, including authentic jerseys, event tickets and special event packages, will be available on the auction.
Gilmore wins Triple Crown
Australia's Stephanie Gilmore made quite a finish.
She beat Sofia Mulanovich yesterday in the final of Billabong Pro Honolua Bay surf contest on Maui and she also wrapped up the women's portion of the Vans Triple Crown.
Gilmore, who won her third straight ASP world title at the Gidget Pro at Sunset Beach on Nov. 28, topped Mulanovich 18.00 to 10.17.
Hawaii's Coco Ho and Melanie Bartels made it as far as the quarterfinals, but were eliminated yesterday.
The contest wrapped up the 2009 women's world tour.
