Wie to play in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates » Michelle Wie is taking time out from final exams for golf at the Dubai Ladies Masters.

Wie, who attends Stanford, said she sat up most of the night working on her statistics final.

Wie is coming off her first professional win on the LPGA Tour last month. She also has a sore ankle that caused her to withdraw from the LPGA Tour Championship last month. Wie said the ankle has yet to fully heal, but it feels better.

Wie faces a strong field in the tournament, which starts today and is the season-ending event on the Ladies European Tour.

Te'o receives freshman honor

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o was named to the first team of the collegefootballnews.com All-Freshman Team announced yesterday.

Te'o, a Punahou graduate, finished the season with 63 tackles, including 5.5 for loss.

Seasiders drop in rankings

Brigham Young-Hawaii fell out of the No. 1 spot in the NABC Division II men's basketball poll for the first time this eason yesterday.

The Seasiders (4-1) lost last week to Seattle Pacific 78-72 and fell to No. 7.

Gago receives weekly award

Brigham Young-Hawaii senior guard Mahina Gago is the Pacific West Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Gago scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as BYUH beat San Francisco 69-61 on Saturday in the Seasiders' first win ever against a Division I women's basketball team.

Lipsher to train with U.S. team

Former Punahou soccer star Allison Lipsher has been invited to train with the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team, Dec. 13-20, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Lipsher, a goalkeeper, played last season with the Boston Breakers of the Women's Professional Soccer league. She was a standout at Duke.
