QUESTION: There seems to be a large number of animals at the Humane Society for adoption. How many get euthanized a year?

ANSWER: This year we're pleased to share with you that euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals is less than 1 percent. We find more new families for homeless animals — 5,900 this year — than all other shelters combined on Oahu.

There is no time limit on how long we'll hold an animal for adoption. We can only hope that more people will choose adoption. More than 100 dogs are currently at the Hawaiian Humane Society looking for homes.
