LOOK, LISTEN & DO » A second Elton John concert has been announced for Jan. 9, at the Blaisdell Arena. Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday.

John, appearing with his regular percussionist Ray Cooper, quickly sold out the first arena show scheduled for Jan. 6.

Tickets are priced at $67, $97 and $157, and will be available at the Blaisdell Center Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com or charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000.

Tickets are reserved, open to all ages, and sales are limited to six per person. Applicable service charges will be added to the cost of each ticket.

Bake sale to help fight child cancer

Students at the Richardson School of Law will be raising money for pediatric cancer with a bake sale from 3 to 5 p.m. tomorrow in the school's courtyard.

The Students with Keiki Group is contributing to the Cookies for Kids' Cancer charity, started in 2007 by the mother of a child afflicted with cancer. The first fundraiser, involving 250 volunteers and 96,000 cookies, raised more than $400,000 in three weeks.

Preview YWCA's health programs

The Laniakea branch of the YWCA of Oahu will be hosting an open house week starting Friday, giving the public the opportunity to sample the schedule of classes in the health and wellness program.

Guests can try the program for free for five days and use the facility's heated pool, fitness center and gym or take any fitness class.

Special half-hour “;snapshot”; classes during the lunch hour will be offered in kickboxing, yoga, muscle pump, aerobics and tai chi.

Isles in 'Ripley's Believe It or Not!'

Hawaii is represented in this year's “;Ripley's Believe It or Not! Seeing Is Believing,”; the sixth title of an annual series that collects bizarre and unusual facts and stories. (The book retails for $28.95 from Ripley Publishing.)

Among the tidbits about surfing in the book are:

» A photo of a pet rat on a 4-foot surfboard built by teenager Boomer Hodel of Haleiwa. (Hodel claims he taught his pets how to surf.)

» A photo showing that Donald “;D.J.”; Dettloff of Maui has made a fence out of more than 700 surfboards.

» In April of 2008, paddle-boarder C.J. Kanuha took his board to within 20 feet of a lava flow from Kilauea that went into the ocean. With an elevated temperature of 400 degrees, the wax on his surfboard melted, and Kanuha scalded his feet before paddling away from the flow.
