Rain, boulder, floods disrupt Kauai traffic

Heavy rain caused a 500-pound boulder to fall onto Waewae Road yesterday, blocking the road, while flooding disrupted traffic on other parts of Kauai.

The rain created hazardous road conditions and forced the temporary closure of Hanalei Bridge in the morning and Hauaala Road in Keapana, Kauai County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.

Heavy ponding was reported on Kapaa bypass road Kuamoo Road in Wailua Homesteads and at Weliweli and Ala Kinoiki roads in Koloa.
