Holiday food OK for pets in small amounts

Question: Is it really that bad to share a little bit of the holiday feast with my dog?

Answer: A few small boneless pieces of cooked turkey, a taste of mashed potato or even a lick of pumpkin pie shouldn't pose a problem. But feeding from the table can create a beggar that you'll never be rid of. If you must indulge, add a bit of turkey and vegetables inside a toy, and he'll be occupied while you enjoy your feast. However, don't allow your pets to overindulge, because they could wind up with a case of stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse: an inflammatory condition of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. In fact, it's best keep pets on their regular diets during the holidays.
