A 29-year-old man who was shot by police Sunday was charged yesterday on various assault and drug counts.
Gerald F. Galon Jr. is charged with assault in the second degree and assault on a law enforcement officer in the first degree, stemming from allegations that he dragged a police officer several feet while trying to flee in his car.
He was also charged with unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, promoting dangerous drugs in the third degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $250,000.
Galon was arrested upon his release Monday from a hospital.
Police said Galon was sleeping Sunday morning in a car with the engine running on Cooke Street in Kakaako.
An officer woke him and asked him to turn off the engine. But as the officer reached for the keys, Galon drove off, police said, prompting a second officer to fire at him.
