Rainbow Wahine hoops loses rout

The Hawaii women's basketball team gave up the fifth-highest point total in school history in a 105-75 pasting at Cal State Bakersfield last night.

UH (1-2) yielded a combined 203 points in the last two games of its three-game road trip through California.

The Division I independent Roadrunners (1-2) shot 15-for-28 on 3-pointers, a UH opponent record for made threes.

Forward Dita Liepkalne had the best all-around game among Wahine players with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Up next for the Rainbow Wahine is No. 14 Arizona State in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic on Friday in UH's home debut.

HPU drops game to Humboldt

Mike Helton scored 25 points, but the Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team fell to Humboldt State 86-72 last night at Rohnert Park, Calif.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) earned their first win of the season by having five players in double figures, led by 18 points for Brian Morris.

Reggie New scored 17 points for the Sea Warriors (1-2).

» UH-Hilo was within three points with 5 minutes left, but Western Oregon ran away with an 87-75 win last night in Monmouth, Ore.

Bryan Ngo and Justin Smith each scored 16 points for the Vulcans (0-2).

HPU women lose opener

Tiffany Wilson scored 16 points and Mana Hopkins added 13, but the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team lost its season opener, 62-52 to the Colorado School of Mines.

The Sea Warriors will stay in Colorado to play Adams State College tomorrow.

BYUH's Mearns, Aiono honored

Brigham Young-Hawaii soccer players Emily Mearns and Natasha Aiono were named to the Daktronics all-region team yesterday.

Mearns, a forward, led the PacWest in scoring and Aiono, a midfielder, had three game-winning goals.

Football coaches at Na Koa Club

Na Koa Football Club will hold its weekly luncheon at The Willows restaurant tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin or one of his assistants will be there to discuss yesterday's game against San Jose State.

Honolulu Quarterback Club members will be attending. The cost is $15 and the public is invited.
