Honokaa woman lost control before crash

A 22-year-old Honokaa woman died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash on Hawaii Belt Road in Hamakua.

Big Island police said Keshia A. Fernandez was driving a 1998 Honda four-door sedan and traveling west near the 52-mile marker when she lost control, crossed the center line and collided with a 2002 Ford multipurpose vehicle traveling east just before 7:30 a.m.

She was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Fernandez was wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Ford, a 34-year-old woman from Waimea, and her passengers — three boys ages 14, 4 and 2, and a 13-year-old girl — were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

This is the 21st traffic fatality on Big Island this year compared with 24 at this time last year.

Man accused of using roommate's debit card

Police arrested a 32-year-old Haleiwa man who allegedly used his 57-year-old roommate's debit card and bought a $2,630.27 computer with it.

Police said the suspect allegedly bought the computer on the Internet May 12.

Police said the roommate had not been receiving his debit card statements, so he checked online and discovered the unauthorized charge, police said.

Officers arrested the suspect Wednesday on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card.

The suspect was released later pending investigation.

Police search for 2 men suspected of sex assault

Police are asking for help in finding two men who sexually assaulted a woman Oct. 3 in Waialua.

Police said the woman met the two men at about 2:40 a.m. in Waikiki.

They had a few drinks together, then the men offered the woman a ride to another bar but drove her to Waialua instead and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The woman was disoriented and had visible injuries on her face when a passing motorist found her walking at about 7:48 a.m. along J.P. Leong Highway.

The first suspect is about 19 to 20 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing 160 pounds, with a red koi tattoo on his forearm. He was wearing a red baseball cap. The second man is described as in his 20s, standing 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, also weighing about 160 pounds with a black crew cut, and a tattoo of a skull on his forearm.

Wahiawa man arrested after woman is choked

Police arrested a 23-year-old Wahiawa man Wednesday afternoon for allegedly choking a 22-year-old female household member.

Police said the suspect and the victim were arguing, and the man choked the woman until she passed out. After the woman woke up, she went to a neighbor's house to call police.

The man was later arrested on suspicion of felony abuse of a household or family member.
