Trapasso adds 6 new recruits

Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent for the 2011 season yesterday.

Joining Campbell's Charles Kaalekahi III, who faxed his letter to UH on Monday, are Kamehameha catcher Keanu Carmichael, 'Iolani left-handed pitcher Jarrett Arakawa, lefty Michael Blake of Mt. Hood (Ore.) College, right-hander Kenny McDowall from College of Southern Nevada and right-hander Luke Taylor of Woodinville (Wash.) High School.

Calip commits to Hawaii golf team

Nainoa Calip of Kamehameha-Hawaii signed a national letter of intent to play golf for Hawaii, the school announced yesterday.

Calip is the reigning Big Island Interscholastic Federation individual champion and finished 15th at the state championships.

Hawaii softball team signs 5 recruits

Five players signed letters of intent to play softball for Hawaii in 2011, the school announced yesterday.

Of the five, four are position players—Sharla Klibenstein, Kaile Nakao, Jazmine Zamora and Gerika Pantohan. The other, Mala Lemay, is a pitcher.

Pantohan is three time all-state selection from Campbell High.

Nakao, Zamora, Klibenstein and Lemay are from California.

3 HPU players make All-PacWest team

Hawaii Pacific forward Chance Bukoski, midfielder Ikaika Fuerte and defender Sven Blauth were picked to the All-PacWest men's soccer first team.

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Adam Maciejewski was also named to the first team.

Forwards Sam Akinaka of BYUH and Logan Montenegro and Vinnie Muscarella of Hawaii-Hilo, midfielders Kevin Fung of HPU and Luis Segovia of UHH, and defenders Nathan Scott of HPU and Collin Walch of BYUH were among the second-team selections.

Grand Canyon's Kyle Ciliento was named as the player of the year and freshman of the year.

Hawaii-Hilo tops Alaska Fairbanks

Kirsty Imai scored 25 points and Hina Kimitete added 20 to lead Hawaii-Hilo past host Alaska Fairbanks in women's basketball last night.

Lakeshia Levi led the Nanooks (1-1) with 17 points.

The Vulcans improved to 1-3.
