Flemings named player of week

Hawaii men's basketball senior forward Roderick Flemings was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in two Rainbow Warriors wins to start the 2009-10 season.

Flemings had consecutive double-doubles (23 points and 12 rebounds vs. Southern Utah, 14 points and 10 boards vs. McNeese State) to earn his second career WAC weekly honor. He was an All-WAC second-teamer as a junior, and a preseason pick to land there again this season.

“;It means a lot, man,”; Flemings said. “;I feel like I'm getting off to a good start. My teammates have been helping me out a lot, so I want to thank my teammates. Just gotta keep it going, man. I'm happy about it.”;

The Dallas native is averaging 18.5 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field and 11 rebounds for the 2-0 Rainbows.

Harrington gets WAC weekly nod

Nevada junior hitter Kylie Harrington (Saint Francis '07) was named the WAC player of the week yesterday, the first weekly honor of her career.

Harrington had a combined 54 kills, 22 digs and two aces as the Wolf Pack went 2-1 to clinch a spot in next week's WAC tournament in Las Vegas. She had a career-high 25 kills in the 3-1 win over Fresno State and hit a career-best .571 with 18 kills in the sweep of Louisiana Tech.

Pang honored in D-III volleyball

Washington University libero Kelly Pang ('Iolani '09) was named Central Regional freshman of the year in AVCA Division III volleyball.

Pang has 577 digs and is 30 digs away from the single-season record for the Bears. She was also named to the all-region team and earned first-team All-University Athletic Association honors, with a 5.50 dig-per-set average that ranked 39th in Division III.
