Police suspect alcohol in crash
A 34-year-old Honolulu man was hospitalized with critical injuries after his car sideswiped another car about 7:05 p.m. Friday while both were traveling makai on University Avenue near Kuilei Street, police reported.
The man was driving a 2003 four-door Saturn in the left lane on University Avenue when he sideswiped a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta in the adjacent lane driven by a 32-year-old Honolulu woman, police said.
The man's car struck a tree on a center grass median and overturned on the roadway, police said.
The driver was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He was not searing a seat belt and his airbag was not deployed, police said. Speed and alcohol were suspected factors in the crash, they said.
The woman was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Woman allegedly stabs husband in argument
A 27-year-old Maili woman was charged yesterday with two counts of second-degree assault in the alleged stabbing of her husband Friday.
Nancy Kapahu was being held on $25,000 bail. Police said that shortly after midnight, Kapahu stabbed her husband with a knife in the left chest during an argument at their home.
Kapahu's husband, 29, was treated and released from the hospital.
Police open abuse case after suspicious injury
Police are investigating the suspected abuse of a 9-month-old boy by his 27-year-old mother in Waianae.
About 11:30 a.m. Friday, the woman took the boy to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children to treat head injuries, police said.
The woman said she had been taking a bath and was carrying her child when she fell while trying to step out of the tub. Doctors found the injuries suspicious and called Child Welfare Services.
Witness detains teen suspect before arrest
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy who was detained by a witness after the boy allegedly tried to break into a 73-year-old woman's home in Hawaii Kai.
Police said at about 2:15 p.m. Friday, the boy tried to enter the home, but ran away after the witness yelled, police said. The witness saw the boy at another location, chased him, then detained him until police arrived.
Big Island pharmacy robbed of narcotics
Big Island police are warning the public about stolen narcotics taken during a robbery at a Waimea pharmacy Monday.
Police said the suspect, armed with a handgun, demanded fentanyl and OxyContin, and fled on foot to an area known as Waimea Nature Park.
The suspect was wearing camouflage clothing and had a camouflage backpack. He is described as tan, between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build. The man spoke with a heavy pidgin accent.
Police said use of the narcotics could be fatal.
Kauai man sent threats while in jail

Daniel Bonanno's ex-wife, her new fiance and her mother all sought restraining orders against him in 2007.
The trio said he threatened them by phone and in writing, promising revenge once he was released from prison on Oahu.
Bonanno was released from the Halawa Correctional Facility last Sunday after serving five years for theft.
On Monday morning, the 47-year-old was discovered dead in a pickup truck near the top of Kuamoo Road in Wailua Homesteads.
Following an autopsy, police announced they had opened a homicide investigation. Further details of his death have not been disclosed.
