Police hunt suspect in Waikiki stabbing
Police are looking for a suspect who approached a 21-year-old man for money and then stabbed him yesterday in Waikiki.
At about 4:30 a.m. the victim was found sitting at the Burger King at King's Village on Kaiulani Avenue, bleeding from multiple wounds, police said.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the Emergency Services Department, said the victim was taken in serious condition to a hospital.
The suspect was last seen heading toward Kapili Street. Police have opened a first-degree robbery case.
2 need treatment after house fire
Two men were treated for smoke inhalation yesterday after an early morning fire that caused $53,000 damage to a home in Pearl City.
The blaze started shortly before 1 a.m. in the upstairs bedroom at 1277 Kipaipai St., said Honolulu Fire Capt. Earle Kealoha.
Eight people, ages 1 to 56, were home at the time in the three-bedroom, two-story townhouse, Kealoha said.
Neighbors smelled smoke and alerted the occupants, Kealoha said.
Two men living at the house poured water on the fire until firefighters arrived. Both men were treated at the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation, he said. The cause of the fire is unknown. The American Red Cross was assisting the residents.
Crashing stolen car brings arrest
Police arrested a 22-year-old Whitmore Village man yesterday who allegedly crashed a stolen car in Mililani.
An officer saw the driver running away after crashing the car into a guardrail at Waihonu Drive and Waimoku Place at about 1:20 a.m., police said.
Police found out the car was stolen and arrested the man on suspicion of car theft, reckless driving and an accident involving damage to property. He was taken to a hospital where he refused treatment, and was released later pending investigation.
