A proud dad whose daughter is a member of the undefeated Sacred Hearts Academy Intermediate Division II undefeated volleyball team is hoping the team can get some recognition. So be it. Members of the team are: Tiffany Atud, Anissa Cabe, Caitlin Colipano, Jacqueline Corpus, Makena Kaaialii, Taylor Kaneshiro, Maria Leineweber, Alisa Martinez, Lydia McShane, Tory Nakashima, Chelsea Nicholas, Pamela Nishida and Cierra Ponimoi. Head coach is Cory Kurihara and assistant coach is Justine Kadokawa. The girls recorded 20 straight victories — seven in the Kamehameha preseason tourney, 10 in the ILH regular season and three in the ILH championship tournament. Congratulations girls! The popularity of dance shows on network TV may have something to do with a good number of local folks kicking up their heels nowadays with dance groups. One of the groups is Divina Ritmo Dance, led by instructors Lucas Jaime and Yanna Samkova. They and several of their key dancers compete in dance competitions on the mainland and sometimes in Canada. People interested in ballroom dancing should attend the Divino Ritmo Ball, “;Memoirs,”; a dinner-dance and a program showcasing the students and instructors in the Sheraton Ballroom, Nov. 21, 6 to 11 p.m. It's a dressy affair with women asked to wear gowns or cocktail dresses and men, suits or ethnic attire. The Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is always packed with fabulous gifts and here is one that will turn on any guitarist. It's a custom-made Martin “;Metal Arts”; acoustic guitar. It's not made of metal, it has inlays of bronze, copper and brass for the headstock and fingerboard, hand cut by master artisan Tracy Cox. Madagascar rosewood was used for the back and sides and the soundboard is of Adirondack spruce. But there won't be too many guitarists reaching into their wallets to buy this classic — it's priced at 12 grand …

Topping it off: Hawaii's pre-college-age musicians should start putting extra effort into their practices if they would like to have a shot at getting on National Public Radio's highly rated program, “;From the Top.”; The award-winning show will tape two live performances on the Big Island for national broadcast. Tapings will be held at Kamuela's Kahilu Theatre Jan. 20 and at the Kamehameha Schools Hawaii's Lunalilo Center in Keaau Jan. 22. Auditions are open to advanced students and musical ensembles throughout the state as well as other states. The audition deadline for the two Big Isle tapings is Nov. 16.
