Rainfall was expected to diminish today as a surface trough west of Kauai moves west away from the islands, the National Weather Service said.

Breezy tradewinds will bring a few windward showers, forecasters said, and a high-surf advisory for the north shores of Kauai and Oahu was due to expire this morning. Waves of up to 18 feet were re-ported yesterday.

A small-craft advisory for island waters, with winds of up to 35 mph and seas of 10 feet, was due to end at 6 p.m. today.

Strong easterly winds, from 17 to 20 mph, were forecast for today.

At 5 p.m. yesterday the 24-hour rainfall totals were just under 2 inches at Wainiha and Kapahi, Kauai, and over an inch at Kahuku, Ahuimanu, Kaneohe, Olomana, Nuuanu and Manoa on Oahu.

The weather apparently was not to blame for intermittent outages in T-Mobile cellular service in Honolulu yesterday.

T-Mobile said in a statement from Seattle that voice and data service was interrupted to at least 5 percent of its customers in various locales nationwide. No reason was given.
