Kapolei credit union office to close

Honolulu Federal Credit Union will close its Kapolei branch Jan. 22 due to the economy, said Warren Nakamura, president and chief executive officer, in a notice filed with the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

The closing will affect four employees, all of whom are being offered positions at the Kapiolani branch, effective Jan. 23.

Aveda salon closing Ala Moana store

Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa will close its Ala Moana Center location on Dec. 31, ending jobs for 69 of its 70 employees.

The company notified the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations that it does not intend to renew its lease at the shopping center and that certain of its assets would be bought by Thomas Holdings LLC, which does business as Hoala Salon and Spa.

Thomas Holdings is led by Lititia Thomas, longtime Aveda site manager.

Hoala will continue to accept Aveda gift cards, a spokeswoman said.

Hilo's Sure Save pares work force

Foodland Super Market's acquisition of the lease for Puna Fresh Foods at Keaau Town Center will result in 52 employees losing their jobs Nov. 15.

Foodland will take over the store from Sure Save Super Market Ltd., and plans to reopen it later this month as Foodland Keaau.

A total of 110 employees previously worked at the Sure Save operation, and a notice of the 52 terminations was filed with the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations to add detail to the earlier filing, said Carl Okuyama, president.

Free coffee offered with purchases

Hawaii's Jack in the Box restaurants are offering customers one free regular-sized hot or iced coffee, with a purchase, through the month of November.

The restaurants are offering the freebies as a way to introduce its new coffee purveyor, Hawaiian Paradise Coffee, and its Kona-blend coffee.

The Hilo Jack in the Box is participating in the promotion, but with a different coffee purveyor.

  Sales and Marketing Executives International has appointed Janet M. Scheffer as an international board member. She is the president and marketing director of Mana Means Advertising and Public Relations. Clint Schroeder was appointed as a member of the International Membership Committee.
