2 pedestrians struck while in crosswalks

Two pedestrians were critically injured yesterday when they were struck in crosswalks in separate traffic accidents on Oahu.

A man in his mid-30s was hit by a car on Kamehameha Highway near Pearlridge Center and was in critical condition last night at the Queen's Medical Center.

A 79-year-old woman was also in critical condition at Queen's after she was struck while trying to cross South King Street in Moiliili.

Police said the woman was headed mauka in a crosswalk at Coolidge Street. Bystanders said the woman was dragged about 30 feet. The driver of the car, a 64-year-old woman, was not injured in the 10:40 a.m. accident.

The Aiea accident happened at 8:45 a.m. as the man was walking makai in a crosswalk at the Pali Momi Street intersection, police said. He was originally listed as being in serious condition, but it was changed to critical.

The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was headed west on Kamehameha Highway. She was not injured.
